PRESENTACIÓN

El objetivo de este catálogo ha sido recopilar información sobre mi labor en el ámbito de las artes plásticas y visuales durante el periodo comprendido entre los años 2001 y 2011. He procurado presentar una relación de contenidos que sirva al lector para conocer  los aspectos técnicos (dimensiones, procedimientos, etc.), junto a los objetivos que me han llevado a la realización de estas obras; es decir, los elementos implícitos que incluye cada una de ellas y que a menudo no resultan accesibles a las personas que las observan de un modo directo o indirecto. De ahí que haya considerado necesario incorporar un apartado conceptual que facilite la lectura de las piezas. No siempre se da una estrecha simbiosis  entre lo que uno pretende plasmar o proyectar, y lo que los demás entienden (aunque las interpretaciones puedan ser muy variadas). Es evidente que el propio bagaje educativo y cultural nos ayuda a descifrar y comprender múltiples ámbitos y objetos, pero al no ser éste a menudo coincidente en todo, se mantiene una cierta distancia, incomprensión o desinterés en algunas ocasiones.

A mi juicio mi obra es variada, sencilla y asequible a quien quiera acercarse. Pretende ser personal, auténtica y creativa, sin ser muy original o novedosa. Se enmarca dentro de los parámetros actuales y abarca diversas modalidades: cerámica, instalación, escultura, fotografía, libro de artista, etc. Se trata más bien del resultado de un progreso a través del cual he ido aprendiendo nuevos procesos y métodos de trabajo que me han servido para expresar vivencias y mi propia visión del contexto. A veces, la necesidad de expresión es la que me ha llevado a adoptar un medio o técnica; en otros casos han sido el propio material y procedimiento los que me han obligado a seguir un determinado camino u orientación.

Las personas nos hallamos constantemente influidas por el medio social, familiar, laboral e involuntariamente estos ámbitos repercuten en nuestra tarea con el fin de enriquecerla o bien problematizarla. Del contexto surgen los temas que nos motivan a reflexionar y a expresarnos de de múltiples maneras. Entre las mismas, las artes plásticas y visuales son fundamentales para mi, porque me permiten decir cosas a través del empleo de medios distintos y por lo tanto, me sirven para matizar o completar aspectos que no sería capaz de explicar de otro modo La mayor parte de  mi obra surge de la voluntad de expresión y viene determinada por ella, aunque algunas de dichas piezas hayan sido creadas para presentar en muestras, en las cuales ha sido fijado de antemano el asunto en torno al que se ha configurado un repertorio de piezas.

Finalmente, he procurado estructurar mi actividad por ámbitos: instalaciones, proyectos, fotografía, libros de artista y obras de pequeño formato (escultura y diseño). Dentro de cada uno se ha seguido un orden cronológico. Además del comentario técnico o conceptual, se indica el lugar o colección donde se encuentran algunas de dichas obras, cuando éstas no pertenecen a mi propio fondo, con el fin de tener una clasificación completa y exhaustiva que sirva a todos aquellos que se hallen interesados en conocer  algunos detalles sobre mi aportación en este sector.

INTRODUCTION

The objective of this catalogue is to compile information on my work in the fields of the plastic and visual arts during the time period spanning the years 2001 to 2011. I have tried  to present a list of contents that allows the reader to know the technical aspects (measures, procedures, etc.) as well as the reasons that have driven me to the realization of these works. That is, the implicit elements included in each of them which do not often become apparent to those observing them in a direct or indirect way. That is why I have considered it necessary to include a conceptual sub-section that facilitates the understanding of the pieces. There isn't always  a close symbiosis between what one wants to materialize or project  and what other people perceive (although  interpretations can be very varied). It is evident that our own educational and cultural baggage helps us to decipher and to understand multiple mediums and objects, but given that such baggage often differs from one person to the next, there exists on occasion a certain distance, lack of understanding or lack of interest. 

To my understanding, my work is varied, simple and accessible to those who wish to take a closer look and it is supposed to be personal, authentic and creative, without it being too original or innovative. It is set within a present-day framework and it comprises various means: ceramics, installation art, sculpture, photography, artist's books, etc. It is rather the result of a progress through which I have learned new procedures and working methods that have been useful in expressing events experienced in life and my own vision of the context. Sometimes, the need for expression is what led me to use a certain medium or technique; in other cases, it was the materials or procedure which determined which way or orientation I should take.

We are constantly influenced by society, family or work and such factors involuntarily bear an influence upon our task, enriching it or else complicating it. Out of the context emerge the themes that motivate us to reflect and to express ourselves in multiple fashions. Among those, the plastic and visual arts are fundamental for me because they allow me to say things through different mediums and, therefore, enable me to add a shade of meaning or to complete aspects that I would not be able to explain through other means. The greater part of my work comes from the will of expression and is determined by it. However, some of the aforementioned pieces have been created to be displayed in exhibitions, where the theme for a certain repertoire of pieces was set beforehand.

Finally, I have tried to break my work down into different mediums: installation art, projects, photography, artist's books and works of small format (sculpture and design). For each of them I have  followed a chronological order. In addition to the conceptual or technical specifications, the place or collection where some of the pieces can be found are also mentioned, when they are not part of my own collection, so as to obtain a full and exhaustive classification which will be of assistance to those interested in knowing details of my contribution to this field.
